Lewisville ISD Trustee Resigns Over Nepotism Policy

Lewisville ISD Trustee Dr. Buddy Bonner announced his resignation this week after nearly two terms on the board. His reason: a family member will soon be employed by the district, which falls under LISD’s nepotism rules.

Rather than risk any conflict of interest, Bonner stepped down early, saying:

“I have a family member who will be employed by Lewisville ISD in the 2025-2026 school year and falls within those affinity guidelines. Thus my early departure.”

Bonner had two years left on his term but chose transparency, citing his pride in the board’s work and his decades of service to LISD as teacher, principal, administrator, and trustee.

LISD will have 180 days to fill his seat by appointment or special election.

The takeaway? In Lewisville, a board member resigns to avoid even the appearance of impropriety. In CFBISD, we’ve seen the opposite: leaders ignoring conflicts, dodging transparency, and eroding community trust.
